Writing two car blogs as well as being the automotive columnist for a pair of regional magazines seems to be working to my advantage of late. I’ve been blessed with one new client and am also now a contributor to Bestcovery, an internet product rating site launched in November 2008 by Kamran Pourzanjani, who was the co-founder and former CEO of PriceGrabber.com.

Early last month, a representative of Bestcovery contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in writing product reviews for their site. After carefully examining several reviews and digging around for more information about the company, I agreed to share my knowledge about the specific cars and products and am now one of the contributing experts to their Automotive category (see profile).

Referral Traffic With Possible Financial Rewards

The short term upside for me is that I gain some additional exposure as the articles I write are attributed to me with a link back to one of my blogs. A financial aspect comes to those who are promoted to Category Managers (CM) in the form of incentives and gift cards. I’m not at liberty to divulge specifics, but the opportunity for financial compensation takes second place to referral traffic and web exposure for me personally.

Most of the topics I cover are ones that I develop myself although Bestcovery will send “requested best” notices from time to time to see if I can cover those as well. In addition to writing articles about the best big pickup trucks and muscle cars I agreed to write about best car rental companies and best auto insurance companies. The latter two required additional research on my part, but I agreed to take them both because they are subjects I am familiar with. For those topics where I don’t believe I can lend my expert opinion I turn those down with no pressure from Bestcovery.

How It Works

You can find additional details about Bestcovery on their site and contact them if you are interested in becoming an expert. In general when you do select a topic you need to come up with a title which always starts with best and goes something like this – Best of the Big Boy Pickup Trucks. I find using a bit of creativity with your headline helps as that attracts visitors to your review. Then, you can include as many as five bests, choosing one to be your top finisher.

Admittedly, there are times when a clear winner isn’t always easy to determine, but that is what makes this site interesting – you have to rank in your own mind where a product places. Don’t worry, if readers don’t like what you wrote they can leave a comment telling you that. That’s okay, I stick to my guns by sticking with my list of finishers no matter what others may think.

Just Getting Started

At the moment I have six reviews submitted to Bestcovery and several more in the works. It is too early to tell how all of this is working out for me traffic wise, but I expect I’ll have a clearer picture by the end of the month.
