Hanging In With Entrecard

I forget how long I have been using Entrecard, but I am still active with this traffic generating social networking site. I don’t drop cards every day and rarely do I come anywhere near the 300 card drop limit.

EntrecardFunny, all those blurbs about dropping 300 cards in 5 to 15 minutes just doesn’t seem to work for me. It takes me at least 45 minutes, sometimes longer to get through 300.

Regular Visitors

What I do not do enough of is to acknowledge people who visit Matt’s Musings by way of Entrecard. I know a lot of you do and some of you are my top droppers.

January 2009 statistics are in and I would like to thank and recognize the Top 10 Entrecard droppers for the month. They are:

The Way I See It

Patsy’s Words of Wisdom

One World Realty

Cooking Japanese Style

Doocci.com

Cornymans Money-Blog, everything about financial independence

AsTheCrackerheadCrumbles

The One Minute Guide

WordJourney

Best travel pictures in the world

I have started to use Adgitize again and must say that I am disappointed in this service. Twice within the first ten days they were down, sometimes for two or three days at a time.  I understand that websites have problems but prolonged outages are annoying.

Using Adgitize

Entrecard, thankfully, seems to have moved past its growing pains so let’s hope that Adgitize will soon be able to do the same thing. In any case, these kinds of sites can be useful in helping bring in some extra traffic as well as comments to your blog. I have been leaving comments more often too so hopefully our combined efforts will benefit everyone.

I also appreciate my advertisers, many of whom are regulars too. That means I will need to keep track of who is advertising and thank them in a follow up Entrecard post.

Unrelated Business

Not related to Entrecard or Adgitize but still of importance are people who are leaving comments but are doing certain things that are definitely not kosher.

For example, when filling out the spot for your name please use only your real name. The name of your company or anything besides your real name should never be used. Granted, I will sometimes change your comment to reflect your real name (if known) or if your comment is still good, I’ll make up a name. All other comments I delete.

It is considerate when people fill out there comments correctly. You already get a nice link back to your site, but I don’t want to see links within comments unless they are related to the article. Still, use the line on the comment form to include that link.

I apologize for closing with this point, but I have seen a sharp uptick in the number of people who are spamming this blog.

Thank you for your drops, FishHawk. I have also enjoyed a number of your music shares.

    Matt,

I can relate to the last part of your post. I’ve reached the point that I just automatically mark a comment spam if it’s left by a keyword instead of a person.

Akismet stats show that I have an average of 10,000 spam comments a month (and one month I had 33,500+). I’ve had only 12,000+ legitimate comments in 3+ years, so I often get more spam in one month that real comments in 3+ years.

Wow! I thought my blog was getting hit, but it seems that your blog is getting hammered! You do get a lot of comments and many of the ones left are interesting as well as instructive. Still, it is a hassle to go through them especially when some do have redeeming value.

This is a good post on Entrecard. It really brings in traffic. I also use Adgitize, both as publisher and advertiser and it is my No. 3 top referrer, sending 50-60 visitors to my blog daily. I think Adgitize’s server problem is already solved.

I’m happy to note that my wife’s blog “One World Realty” is one of your top ten droppers for the month of January 2010. I, too, drop on your site, but sometimes Entrecard’s stats system has problems tracking top 10 droppers, maybe because of the different time zones of Entrecard and of the users who track the top 10 droppers.

For example, in some blogs I drop daily for 31 days and yet my blog is not included in their top 10 droppers.

Finally, spam is a reality. Everyday my blog receives at least 5 spam comments, some from viagra sites, which I delete immediately.

Eli, please pass on my thanks to your wife.

I, too, wonder if the Top 10 list is correct. I know that there are people who drop by frequently, but they did not appear. Based on what you suggest, you probably are one of these people. So allow me to say thanks too.

Yes, spam is the way of these networks. I am glad to hear that Adgitize’s server is up and running. There were days when all I saw was blank spaces on most blogs.

Thanks for the info and Entricard i will check it out – as for spam well i guess were all a little guilty of it (at least self promotion) but i do agree with some of the comments about getting more spam then actual constuctive comments.

  • By Matthew C. Keegan, February 6, 2010 @ 5:24 pm

Well, I try NOT to come across as spammy, Richard but I am sure that I am guilty of same when I share some of my links on popular sites such as Twitter and StumbleUpon.

I’m another casual EC user but I always enjoy seeing your ‘card’ and make sure to browse your blog even when I can think of nothing to say. :) Thanks for another good read.

Thank you Cally. I am sure I’ve dropped on your site too and may have read your articles. With hundreds of sites included, it can be difficult keeping up with EC.

Why thank YOU, Martin! I’ve seen your face on several blogs so I know you are active online. I appreciate all of your drops times three.

I’m woth adgitize quite a while and it was the first time they encountered troubles. But they kept people informed, compensated very well for it and whenever something needs attention and I mail them the matter is solved within one day.

I’m with entrecard longer and I can’t tell the many times the system was down, or so slowloading that people couldn’t do anything. They never kept updating and it was clear that their earnings were more important than their members.

I stayed because it was an easy way of finding my friends.

I’ve been slandered, but I can tell you, I’ve never ever been able to drop in 5 or 15 minutes.
Dropping takes a long time. It’s a bit faster with a better computer.

When you’re less mobile and you’re not working dropping is not a problem. I drop while listening to my favorite TV programs and now the shuttle is in space, I follow it with a little window beside the large one for dropping.

    It takes hours!!!

    Thanks, Laane.

Yes, dropping takes for ever I am not sure it is a wise use of one’s time. However, since you do multiple things at once such as checking out the shuttle launch it seems you have made it work for you.
