I use commentluv but it is the same idea. I would also recommend installing bad behavior. Since I installed it my spam was cut down by 95%.

Congrats on staying with dofollow.

I’ve done the same on my blog too.

While there are a few spammers the majority of the comments add something worthwhile which is really appreciated.

Cant you set up any type of filters to prevent people from posting multiple URL’s and other spam content in their comments?

I have my blogs set up so that once I approve one comment the next time the person comes by (leaving same email and website url) their comment will publish automatically. Unfortunately I do get a lot of spammy comments too so they get deleted or their urls and emails stripped (depending on the content of their comment).

I think the do follow movement actually started a few years ago. Pretty much as soon as Google started pushing for standardization of the rel=nofollow tag. However last April a lot of people really got on the do follow band wagon and that’s when I decided to create the do follow blogroll.

If you have a good spam filter, then you shouldn’t have a problem. My blog is set up so that I only have to approve commentators who have never commented before.
