No Fooling, Easy Commenting Is Here
I finally did it, I installed a plug-in which allows people to see their comments immediately on this site without having to
wait for my approval. No, if you haven’t posted here before you aren’t in that group of people, but if you have a couple of earlier comments included, then you’ve got an automatic go ahead.
I made the change for two reasons:
- A handful of my regulars commented that they would like to see their comments right away instead of waiting, and…
- …it makes it easier for me as I don’t have to check in several times throughout the day to answer email notifications of comments.
If you want to treat your blog visitors similarly, then why not head over to Lucia’s Linky Love plug-in page and download a copy for your blog?
Finally, April marks the first year anniversary of when the “Do Follow” movement really got going, something I first learned about over at Tricia’s Musings. For the record, most of my other blogs are also Do Follow.

If you have a good spam filter, then you shouldn’t have a problem. My blog is set up so that I only have to approve commentators who have never commented before.
(See, here I am testing your new commenting policy…)

Matt,
Good move. This should reduce your workload significantly and free your time to do other important task.

1 year since the Do Follow movement started?! And to think I only joined yesterday…
BTW, you might want to check your tab order in your comment form (currently: Name-Mail-Website-Verify Mail).

Thanks everyone. So far, so good. Only the druggy spammers are being disappointed.
RFW — the form is customized. I wouldn’t dare mess with the coding!

I have my blogs set up so that once I approve one comment the next time the person comes by (leaving same email and website url) their comment will publish automatically. Unfortunately I do get a lot of spammy comments too so they get deleted or their urls and emails stripped (depending on the content of their comment).
I think the do follow movement actually started a few years ago. Pretty much as soon as Google started pushing for standardization of the rel=nofollow tag. However last April a lot of people really got on the do follow band wagon and that’s when I decided to create the do follow blogroll.

A good move, don’t let the spammers win!

Cant you set up any type of filters to prevent people from posting multiple URL’s and other spam content in their comments?

Congrats on staying with dofollow.
I’ve done the same on my blog too.
While there are a few spammers the majority of the comments add something worthwhile which is really appreciated.
Thanks for the heads up on this plugin also

I use commentluv but it is the same idea. I would also recommend installing bad behavior. Since I installed it my spam was cut down by 95%.

Sweet! Maybe I should start commenting more
. But my comment says “In Moderation”, so I guess it’s not instant anymore.
