Now Blogging For James Allen

Yes, I did it again — I helped launch a new blog — this time for a customer of mine, online jeweler James Allen.
The idea of having a blog with the site was something we tossed around, deciding two months ago to go for it. As with many businesses who run a blog, it can be a drawn out process, making sure that everyone is in agreement and that all of the administrative, writing, editing, and security needs of the blog have been met.
For you freelancers who provide content for customer’s websites, do not be surprised if your client wants to expand their horizons to include a blog. Although the style of writing is different from writing copy, you can probably make that transition with ease. Besides, if you are already familiar with the company and what they sell, you are a natural for blogging for them.
I’ll be blogging here as usual and on my other blogs, but also for James Allen. Please stop by when you get a chance to see what the James Allen blog is all about!

That’s great! Now, you just need to convince them to link to their main site from the blog, and feature the link to the blog much more heavily on the main site.

That’s a good point, Matt. We have a “smallish” link on the left sidebar down and out of the way, but that is it. I think when we work some bugs out and everyone is comfortable with the blog we’ll make some changes to ratchet up visibility.

Blog / Site synergy is key. Getting users to use both is a great accomplishment.

Blogs are necessary for *every* consumer-oriented storefront.

I’m not going to agree with you on this one, Matt. Blogging takes commitment and many smaller storefronts are too thinly staffed to handle the additional responsibilities of writing while moving out product.

wow look at that diamond ring… it just has me staring! I hope I can afford one like that for my significant other… any idea on how much a ring like that goes for?
By Matt, March 18, 2008 @ 2:22 pm
Jus, I have no idea what that ring costs. It is a looker, isn’t it? Check the site out or call James Allen to speak with a representative if you like.
