Bam! Crash! Boom!

Today through Wednesday I will be working under some very unusual conditions (literally): a team of men is on top of our home ripping off the old roof, replacing rotted plywood and fascia boards, installing new gutters and downspouts, and otherwise making noise that is, well, a racket.

Yes, I’m working from home while the work is going on simply to keep up with the progress and to stay in touch with the foreman. Our house is 35 years old, we have lived here three years, and the work is past due. When we bought this home we knew that the gutters were bad and suspected that the roof wasn’t in much better condition. Other than that, the inside of the house had been updated and maintained quite well.

I’m toying with the idea of suspending some of my work today until evening hours when darkness settles in and the workers go home. That’ll be quite a change for me as my most productive hours are earlier in the day rather than later, but I’m thinking that this “ambushed” feeling will be what ultimately drives that decision.

Sometimes you have to change your plans and get the work that needs to be finished done regardless of what else is going on in life.

Hi Matt, actually problems with the roof are the worse kind – and the most expensive. Sad to hear that. I am sure that everything will end well.

It is expensive, Mihaela. However, to delay would be a disaster. We chose a contractor with a very reputation and high quality building materials to get the job done.

I’d rather pay more now then get hosed later!

In the summer we renovated the roof and the interior… the problem here is that even reputated and well payed workers have delays…But I am sure this will not be a problem for you :)
