The Article Writer Mailbag, Take 5

Q. I noticed that you manage seven blogs — how and why do you do this?

A. It isn’t easy! There is a method to my madness — or, should I say that managing seven blogs can take a lot out of anyone.

My short answer is this: blogging allows me to quickly post articles to various sites without having to create web pages and upload these pages one by one. Most of my blogs are related to a topic that I write about: business aviation, writing, automotive, mortgages, etc. In many cases when I write for a client they want the article to be submitted to an article directory and posted on-line. By setting up a network of blogs under my control I can ensure that their article (or press release) will get picked up at least once.

SEO For Blogging

Another reason for managing several blogs is purely for SEO. Each blog points to the other blogs in my network which also point back to several websites that I own. I receive additional web traffic because I have increased the likelihood that someone, somewhere will stumble across something that I have written.

My enthusiasm for blogging isn’t always high, so on some days I’ll blog a lot more than on other days. With my three WordPress blogs, that translates into setting up entries several days in advance something that I cannot do with my four Blogspot sites.

Whew! Just imagine if I gave to you my long answer.

Honestly, just having categories would be easier, but I understand the SEO argument especially if blogging is your full time job or at least a source of income.

I have considered separate categories within a single blog, but it doesn’t give to me the SEO advantage that I need.

I certainly do not blog full time, I put no more than 1-2 hours into it per day, oftentimes much less than that. I DO write full time — press releases, web copy, etc. — and blogging goes hand in hand with my work.
