I mentioned yesterday my liking Google Analytics, a tool every blogger should have in order to track their traffic better. Using Google Analytics along with MyBlogLog can give you some very valuable information about your visitors, thereby helping you to “fine tune” your marketing efforts as needed.

Through MyBlogLog I came across a blog titled, “Jeffrey Munro’s Blog Tips and Tricks.” Immediately, my eyes focused on an article he wrote — List of Sites to Ping — and I quickly realized that my ping service was sorely lacking. Pinging, as you may know, is an important way for your blog to “tell” other sites that you have fresh information included. As Jeffrey pointed out, “The bigger your ping list the higher the chances of receiving traffic from those sources…” As we all know, getting and retaining traffic is critical to the success of any blog.

On his blog Jeffrey also discusses blog design, advertising, and he also features information-packed “10 Things Lists” to help you blog better.

Statistically Speaking

Ever since I began to use Google Analytics (G.A.) in August 2006 I have discovered what a fantastic amount of information that this tool provides to me as a webmaster. For those unfamiliar with G.A., it is a statistic tracking/generating device that monitors traffic to your site. I may not know exactly who visits my sites but I do know where they have come from, what read, how long they visited, and more. G.A. helps me to learn what my visitors are looking for which is especially helpful for a job site such as my JetEmployment aviation board.

google-analytics.gifAlthough G.A. isn’t real time — it does lag by about 4 to 5 hours — if I really want up-to-the-moment stats I can run over to MyBlogLog and check those statistics out as they are in real time. Between the two I get an accurate picture of what my site visitors like to read.

Let’s face it: if you are a blogger, then having a very good grasp on traffic can help you immensely. With statistical information in hand you can adjust your advertising/marketing campaigns accordingly for better market reach. In the end this should translate into additional customers which, of course, means more money in your pocket.
