WordPress 2.1, the “Ella” Update

WordPress is calling their most recent update the “Ella” update in honor of Ella Fitzgerald, better known as The First Lady of Song. The people behind this particular blog software program often pay tribute to some of our well known singers from the past by giving their updated versions nicknames as they have done for Ella Fitzgerald.

I dutifully began to update this blog fairly early today once I realized an update was available. Most of the time it takes me several weeks to install an update, but I figured that Version 2.1 — which fixes some 550 bugs — would be worth getting to right way. As it turns out I let out a yelp about a half hour into things when I realized that it wasn’t going so smoothly for me. Not to belabor the point, but I had to do a fresh download of the complete WordPress program, reinstall my database as well as switch themes in order to make it work. Seems that I should have given this update more attention then trying to make changes while multi-tasking.

Finally, after about four hours time, I managed to get everything back in place and the result is evident to all. Although I haven’t had the time to play with it all that much, the blog panel is very cool as it permits users to enter their information in through either a Visual display or by way of a Code display. If you select Code, you can easily make all of the wonderful HTML markups you desire; no need to go back and forth between the two choices.

I am a bit skittish about updating my other two WordPress blogs just yet. I think I’ll work with the new version on this blog only and make the updates to my other blogs when I get the hang of it.
