Seasonal Writing Done Right

I have teased writers in the past by making the declaration the day after Labor Day, “Merry Christmas, Now Start Writing,” in a bid to help my fellow writers focus on the upcoming holiday season. Most of these types of writings I am speaking about center around the secular celebration of Christmas [although that almost seems odd in itself as the term Christmas means mass of Christ] with the occasional Thanksgiving, Chanukah, and New Year’s themed article included as well.

As of this writing, I believe I have written only one such article since Labor Day. I am, however, getting the feeling that a huge panic from a few clients will soon be made evident as the realization that the American Thanksgiving holiday is but two weeks away. That means that there is only about six weeks of shopping until Christmas and many online retailers want to get every edge they can over the ensuing weeks.

Yes, I can see it now: article projects talking about men’s slippers, ladies’ “unmentionables,” toys for the tots, and even pet treats and toys are likely to end up in my lap any day now. Merry Christmas — now get ready!
