That Was Fast!

I mentioned just two days ago that I had submitted information to Dell concerning my laptop’s battery. As I had recently learned, my battery was part of the huge recall of Sony batteries developed for Dell and Apple notebooks. Later, I also learned that hundreds of thousands of Lenovo, Toshiba, Hitachi, and Fujitsu laptops were affected too. In all, nearly 8 million laptops need new batteries as of this writing.

Kudos to Dell for processing the order fast and for sending the DHL man to my house yesterday with a new battery. Dell also provided a way for me to dispose of the battery as it will be returned to them by way of the postal service at no charge to me.

A side note: because of the tremendous number of laptops affected by the recall, Sony says that they will be experiencing a battery shortfall until June 2007. Therefore, if you suspect that your laptop meets the recall criteria, I strongly suggest that you take action today to seek a replacement.
