I have decided to use some of my slow time to simply keep writing articles on a variety of topics. It seems that I can accomplish so much more by writing articles even when the demand isn’t there. Since I typically get requests for subjects I am already familiar with, it certainly makes sense for me to keep writing about those topics even when a specific job hasn’t materialized.
To date, I have over three dozen unsold articles in my arsenal. When a call comes in for work, I visit my repository, find the appropriate article, brush it up, and the job is done. Sounds easy? Well, perhaps not. I still have to spend time working with existing clients, writing proposals, sending out contracts, etc.
At least the theory seems attractive!
I mentioned previously about my recent slow time, but now it appears as if the slowness has broken. As is common with the writing business, work levels fluctuate dramatically going from feast to famine and back again in short order.
Much of my current and future assignments centers around my specialty: article writing. I am also getting some queries about creating web content and I have submitted proposals for proofreading and press release jobs.
Proofreading is one area where I really shine. Sometimes I miss my own mistakes — laziness or blindness, I don’t know — but I generally can pick out spelling and grammatical errors easily for others.
All of this likely means one thing: I won’t be blogging as much. Time is of the essence and it appears that nearly 100% of that time will be devoted toward writing for others. I don’t mind, but I certainly will miss the daily posting of my thoughts and comments online; somehow this process relaxes me and preps me for my waiting assignments.
